I know you guys are very busy, and you're doing a terrific job, but how well did the Carp conning tower make it through Ike ? I see you moved her to work on the Stewart, Where did she end up ?
I wish I could be there to help, but I'm stuck on the east coast for the forseeable future. Keep up the good work.

Hal

The conning tower took on some water and mud, but that got cleaned up during the first field-day.

The new concrete pad is ready to receive it once the area gets repaved as part of the FEMA paid restoration.

We have the final field-day this coming weekend, after which the park will reopen to the public. The conning tower should be back in place by then.

I believe the conning tower will need some detailed TLC once it's back in place.

A new slab was poured for the Carp conning tower and it now sits next to the Tautog sail. Restoration will concontinue on the interior.

Hal et al,
The Carp conning tower did not suffer any real damage other than a significant amoun of sand and water entered the conn but that has been corrected. Some of the fresh paint will have to be redone but another minor job, at best. The conn has been relocated to an area beside the Tautog sail, which in the near future will be the entrance to the military display. Visitors will first pass the Tautog sail, then have the opportunity to tour the Carp conn. Hopefully this will be accomplished this summer.

Hal, you need a working vacation in Galveston:)

Later Shipmates and friends
John
